Live-French.net, founded in 2007, had one objective: to help anyone who wanted to learn or improve their French with Online French Teachers to do so no matter where they were located and no matter what their level was. Let’s meet today the founder of Live-French.net.

Live-French.net (LFN): Could you tell us how the idea of a French language school came up?
I was living in a very international environment back then in 2007, and I realized that a lot of people were very fond of the French language. A few months earlier, we started Live-English.net and our students really enjoyed the flexibility we offered to learn English with native-English tutors without moving from their living room. So naturally I thought we could use the same concept to teach French. So I gathered a small team of French tutors I knew would be comfortable teaching online, and we got started!
Not many people were doing that at that time, it was very exciting.

LFN: What do you like best about teaching online?
As an online French teacher, you realize that the world is a small place. In one day, you can teach so many diverse people, from Spain, Japan, Germany, the USA and many other countries. I love teaching about French culture and comparing how things work in my students’ own countries. Also, the fact that it’s a private lesson give you the opportunity to truly adapt to the student’s needs and to choose the right learning method (some students hate grammar for example, so you have to be creative to teach certain concepts).

LFN: What advice can you give to someone wanting to learn a new language like French?
It’s never too late to learn French but it’s going to take a few weeks or months before you understand how the language works. It might be too theoretical at the beginning but if you make the effort, it will pay off.

LFN: Can you tell us about a student you enjoyed learning with?
Personnally I love preparing students for the DELF and DALF French exams. A lot of people lack confidence and feel they don’t have a good enough level. But at the same time, passing the exam is really important for them, to get a job, a visa, to get in a university. You know you hav no choice but to succeed. So we work hard, I don’t let my students give up, and I encourage them. A week or so before the exam, I want them to feel how much they’ve improved. It’s not time to learn new vocabulary or grammar structure, but to reflect on what they’ve achieve and feel they can do it! As an online French teacher, my reward is when my students send me messages that they passed their exams and the marks they got were way above expectations!
