What is the DALF C1?
DALF – Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française -Diploma of Advanced French Language Studies is an official diploma delivered by the French National Education Board. If you pass the DALF C1 exam you don’t need to take another language test to enter French universities.
What does the C1 level mean?
Someone who has the C1 level is able to perform the following language tasks:
He is able to understand extended speech, TV programs and films, factual and literary texts, specialized articles and technical instructions. He can express himself fluently and spontaneously. He can formulate ideas and opinions by using a flexible language. He can write about complex subjects in an essay, a report or a letter.
DALF C1 sections
The DALF C1 has 4 different sections: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.
– Listening comprehension: based on a long document (conferences, courses….) and several short radio broadcasts (news, advertisements, etc), you have to answer questions about these recordings
– Reading comprehension: you have to answer questions about a text (literary or journalistic) between 1500 and 2000 words.
– Writing skills: This test is in two parts: you need to write:
1. a synthesis on several documents of about 1000 words,
2. an essay about one of the subjects that appear in the different documents. the fields are usually sciences or humanities.
– Oral skills: you have to be able to talk about a subject based on several written documents, followed by a discussion with the jury.
