Learning French should ideally be a constant effort for whoever wants to improve and feel happy with his/her French level.
However, the holidays are usually a time to have a break and to forget about what’s been done during the year. So, if you don’t have the opportunity to travel to a French speaking country during the holidays, here are a few tips that we’ve gathered to help you maintain your level of French.

Tip #1: check the news in French

Make sure you have your favorite French news website saved in your favorites on your laptop or your smartphone. Spending 10 to 20 min on the news in French will help you learn French vocabulary on current affairs. You’ll be up to date to talk in French about what is happening in the world.

Tip #2: watch French movies

The French cinema industry provides many good movies that are broadcast internationally. Check out your local movie theater program to find out if they have any French movie scheduled any soon.

Tip #3: listen to the radio

If you like French singers and French songs, you’ll enjoy listening to them on French radio stations that you can get on the Internet. Learning by repetition is one of the most basic methods to learn, so make sure you can listen to the radio every day so that you get exposed to French songs several times.

Tip #4: buy a good French book for the beach

It’s not because you have decided to go to the beach that you cannot enjoy a good French novel at the same time. I would recommend to choose a popular French author. If the book is famous, there’s a good chance you’ll like it!

Tip #5: squeeze a weekly lesson by Skype with a French teacher

So now, you’ve worked on listening and reading French skills. Don’t forget to work on your speaking skills. Take a 30 min French lesson online by Skype once a week to make sure your French won’t become too rusty.
